Using Divot Tools for Golf

Using divot tools for golf helps keep the greens and grounds in excellent shape for continued play. When you cause damage to the green, you can quickly fix the problem with hardly any effort. Avid golfers have these tools with them while they play. Using them to repair any damage is not only good, but also good etiquette as well. A ball mark caused when the ball lands on the very delicate grass on the green.

The two tools available include single and dual prongs. The single prong is the newest version, created because many people use the items incorrectly. The single prong helps create the correct motion when repairing a ball mark. The two-prong version is the most common and often given as corporate logo gifts. Many versions may combine them as money clips as well. Find these items in nearly every sport shop. They are relatively inexpensive and very useful to fix the pockmarks on the greens. Many have a button on one end that includes the corporate logo of the company that had them made. Others hang from the golf bag, attached by a short chain. Some courses include them with the scorecard issued when you register for the round of golf.

Using these items properly helps keep the greens in great condition. Since the greens are very delicate, they are prone to damage by balls that land there. Many golfers do not know how to use the repair tool and may cause additional damage if performing the fix incorrectly. The motion needed to apply the fix is down and forward. You should push the prongs into the grass just outside the ball mark. Pushing down and forward helps to close the hole. You will repeat this motion on the different sides until the hold is closed. Finally, gently tap the grass with your putter until it is level and smooth.

Ball marks and cleat marks are very common on the green. Resist the temptation to use the prongs to pull the grass up. This tears the roots and causes the grass to die. Check the green before you move on to the next tee to repair all marks even if you did not create them. The repair takes seconds and is good etiquette. Divot tools for golf help keep the playing field in good shape. Though staff will constantly check the course, repair the damage right away as you arrive at the green.
